An alleged robber was shot dead by a customer at a gas station in Charlotte Wednesday.

The shooting occurred at the QuikTrip located at the intersection of Bellhaven Boulevard and Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road around 10:30 a.m., as reported by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Authorities indicated that prior to the fatal shooting, the suspect conducted a robbery at the station, then fled the scene, discharging at least one shot into the air.

Following the robbery, a law enforcement officer pursued the suspect’s vehicle along Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road. However, the suspect eventually reversed direction and returned to the QuikTrip location.

Upon returning to the gas station, the robbery suspect engaged in a verbal dispute with an individual who was in the process of refueling his vehicle.

During the confrontation, the armed citizen shot and fatally wounded the robbery suspect.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department took the man responsible for the shooting into custody, and said he is cooperating with investigators. The potential for charges being filed remains uncertain at this time.
