POMPANO BEACH, FLA. – Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives arrested a 17-year-old teenager Friday night for his girlfriend’s murder.

Detectives arrested Ja ‘Kolbi Jacsaint Feb. 18 at the Public Safety Building, located at 2601 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Jacsaint is facing one count each of premeditated murder, committing a first degree felony with a firearm, and child neglect for placing an infant in danger when the victim’s vehicle went into a canal. Jacsaint is being held at the Broward Juvenile Detention Center.

The tragic incident occurred Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Pompano Beach. Shortly after 2:30 a.m., Broward County Regional Communications received a 911 call about a car that went into the canal near Northwest Eighth Street and Northwest Tenth Avenue in Pompano Beach. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on scene and located the partially submerged white Chevrolet Camaro. Deputies said a good Samaritan rescued the 5-month-old little girl from the car and was in the process of removing the female driver from the car when they arrived. A Pompano Beach District deputy brought the woman to shore and administered CPR until paramedics arrived. The baby girl was unharmed.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported the woman and baby to Broward Health North hospital. The woman, who had been shot, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The baby girl, who relatives said is the victim’s godchild, was reunited with her mother.

BSO Homicide Unit and Crime Scene detectives responded to the scene to investigate the circumstances that led up to this incident. BSO Dive Team members responded as well to help search for evidence.

Homicide detectives, determined to identify the woman’s killer, conducted interviews, obtained search warrants for the victim’s and Jacsaint’s cellular phones, reviewed street surveillance video and surveillance video from the apartment complex where Jacsaint lives, and attained a search warrant for Jacsaint’s home.

Investigators said based on the information gathered and evidence collected in this case, they believe Jacsaint is responsible for his girlfriend’s death, and during his initial sworn statement, he lied about where he was when the fatal shooting occurred.
