OREGON — A Salem teen is in critical condition after colliding with a vehicle while ridiing his skateboard.
16-year old Joseph Viellette was riding his skateboard northbound on Pringle Rd SE just before 10:00 pm last night when he went through a red light at Madrona Ave SE. A westbound vehicle on Madrona narrrowly avoided a collision with Viellete, but the next vehicle was unable to avoid hitting him in the intersection.
That vehicle, a 2006 Ford Explorer, was being driven by 66-year old Dennis Johnson of Salem. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated in the investigation.
Viellette, who was not wearing any protective equipment, was transported to Salem hospital with life threatening injuries, then later transferred to Emauel Hospital in Portland and is currently in critical condition.
