COLORADO SPRINGS — A man who had allegedly killed a cat has now been charged in the murder of a 44-year-old woman in Colorado Springs.

On Tuesday, April 28, around 9:00 A.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department received a request to check the welfare of Bridget Kenner, who lived in the 8000 Block of Fallgold Court.

Officers responded and located Kenner dead inside of the home.

Detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death on the same day. Detectives identified the suspects as 19-year-old Cohen Heath, also known as Vinn Heath, and a 16-year-old juvenile.

Heath had previously killed a cat in a ‘brutal manner’ when he was 18. He was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, and was out on bond for that charge.

KTTV reported at the time: Heath told investigators he went to a drainage ditch near his home so that no one could see him. He allegedly stabbed the cat several times before placing it into a backpack to muffle any sound the cat might make. According to arrest papers he then took the cat out of the backpack and decided to cut off a front paw because he wanted to make a necklace out of it. Court papers state Heath skinned the cat and put it in a Ziploc bag and placed the paw in a glass jar.

Police did not reveal a relationship between the suspects and victim—nor did they say how the woman was killed.

Both suspects are residents of Colorado Springs. Heath and the juvenile were both charged with Murder in the first degree. Heath was booked into the El Paso County Jail and the juvenile was booked into the Spring Creek Youth Services Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
