NASHVILLE – An investigation by Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the arrest of a Perry County man, who is charged with the aggravated assault of a TBI Agent.

TBI Agents opened an investigation into an incident that occurred on February 26th, while Agents were investigating a separate, unrelated case. On Monday, two Agents went to a residence in Linden, and after identifying themselves, began to speak to the homeowner outside. Another man was also present. As that individual got into his car to leave, one of the Agents approached the vehicle to ask the man a question. When that Agent approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, the driver pointed a handgun at the Agent and drove away. Agents were ultimately able to identify that driver as James Edward Mercer.

On Monday night, James Edward Mercer was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Assault. He was booked into the Perry County Jail and released after posting a $30,000 bond.
