In May 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court eliminated a federal law that permitted sports gambling to occur only in the state of Nevada. The court resolved that any state that wishes to legalize sports betting can do so. And by the end of 2019, sixteen states, including Delaware, New Jersey, Mississippi, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, had passed legislation that legalized sports betting.

Many more states have followed in their footsteps. On March 25, 2020, Washington’s governor officially signed a bill into law, making Washington the 21st state to legalize sports betting. Virginia also legalized sports betting this year and hopes to launch by the end of 2020, permitting all forms of online sports betting. Colorado officially began sports betting on May 1, 2020. Players who previously turned to international sites, sending their hard-earned dollars abroad, can now place their bets from home. By the end of 2020, the Gambling compliance estimates that approximately 50% of Americans will live in states that have existing legislation allowing sports betting. By 2024 more than 40 states will be allowing some form of sports gambling

However, not all states can enjoy the changes happening in the gaming industry. Plus, the alterations in some states may take place at a slower pace. These states include Idaho, Wisconsin, and Utah, where laws prohibiting sports betting require the residents to vote and overturn the laws.

The federal government is also putting in place some fundamental regulation around sports gambling for any state that chooses to legalize. A bilateral bill with three objectives was recently introduced. The bill aims to create safety measures to protect bettors, preserve the integrity of sporting events, and safeguard the sports betting market’s dignity. Without such regulation, it will be confusing for sportsbooks, leagues, and fans to operate on a national level.

Currently, the gambling market in the U.S. is about to take off. In the next few years, perhaps America should adopt to UK or Canada. A casino site (casino operator) on these market with founder roots in other countries can operate on the market if following the regelation and acquiring a license (UK). Many of these countries have accepted online gambling and have grown in staggering popularity. Governments take in revenue from online gambling operations and divert into public services such as hospitals, transport, and schools. The people also feel safe placing bets online in fair regulated markets. USA casino operators should learn from these already successful gambling operations methods and try to promote it in their own country.
