Traffic Stop Leads to $700,000 In Illegal Drugs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Sunday on US 287, yielding over 80 pounds of marijuana valued at over $485,000 and 36 pounds of hashish valued at over $218,000.

At approximately 9:46 a.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2013 Dodge Avenger passenger car traveling southbound on US 287, for a traffic violation, near Iowa Park in Wichita County.

The driver of the Avenger was identified as Ken Tayler, 59, of Houston. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered vacuum-sealed packages of illegal drugs inside the trunk of the vehicle.

Tayler was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana over 50 pounds but less than 2,000 pounds, a second-degree felony, and possession of a controlled substance over 400 grams, a first-degree felony and booked into the Wichita County Jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Irvine, Calif., to Houston. -Texas DPS
