A 16-year old male and 24-year-old male have been arrested in the grisly murder of a middle school teacher.

Lancaster Police arrested Marcus Anthony Rutter, age 16, on Monday night and and on Wednesday announced the arrest of Thomas Moore, age 25, for the murder of Nicole R. Matthewson.

Both have been charged with burglary, homicide, criminal conspiracy to commit burglary and robbery.

No information on the nature of the murder was released, however Lancaster City Police Chief Keith Sadler said that Matthewson was “brutally murdered” during a Tuesday press conference.

When Matthewson was not at school on Monday morning, a friend checked on her and quickly called police to find her dead. Traumatic injuries were visible.

Rutter has admitted to police that he intended to rob the house and that he and his accomplice caused the death of the teacher.

“Based on what (Rutter has) said, we’re absolutely sure he participated in this murder, there’s no other way around it,” explained Lancaster County Distric Attorney Craig Stedman.

Initially reported missing, the teacher’s black 2005 Mazda sedan has since been found. Police have not released any additional information on the investigation at this time.

A GoFundMe page has been established to pay for Matthewson’s funeral costs.

“She was truly a remarkable person who loved life and had a contagious joy that blessed everyone she met,” the page says.
