Authorities said Wednesday they are searching for a convicted sex offender released from prison in Virginia who has gone missing.

Matthew Ezekial Stager was released from federal prison in Petersburg, Virginia, on Feb. 2, and was supposed to report to a transitional center in Texas that day, the U.S. Marshals for the Eastern District of Virginia said in a statement. He didn’t show up and authorities don’t know where he is, the statement said.

Stager is 45 years old, 5-foot-8, 145 pounds and has distinctive tattoos and a history of drug abuse and mental illness, authorities said. He was last seen in Petersburg, authorities said.

The U.S. Marshals are asking anyone with information about Stager’s whereabouts to contact them at 1-877-926-8332.
