The United States has banned all imports of hoverboards because of a copyright infringement from Segway.

The International Trade Commission has halted imports after Segway filed a request.

The company filed a complain with the ITC in 2014 about the imported hoverboards.

The ban primarily affects Chinese manufactured hoverboards, it is expected to create a shortage across the country.

Toys ‘R’ Us, Target and Amazon have stopped selling the products over safety concerns.

A fire started by a hoverboard razed a house in Nashville, Tennessee, trapping two teenagers upstairs.

Companies that want to import the hoverboards will have to post a bond equal to the value of the products.

Segway’s complaint listed at least 13 companies in particular that it felt were infringing on its patents.

Some of the largest hoverboard brands are currently being imported from overseas, any products will be seized at the border.

“It will be enforced at the border by U.S. Customs, which will exclude all infringing imports from entry into the United States. Segway will work with both Customs and the ITC to support effective implementation of the order.”

“[The general exclusion order] is particularly significant because it blocks importation of all products from all sources that infringe a broad patent covering Segway’s PTs,” read the statement posted on Segway’s website.
