SOUTH CAROLINA — Authorities say a man who shot and killed a Forest Acres police officer has been charged with murder.
Forest Acres Police Officer Greg Alia, 32, was shot and killed after responding to a call for a suspicious person inside the Richland mall around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.
34-year-old Jarvis Hall was approached by Alia and a second officer.
The suspect got into a struggle with Alia, pulled out a gun, and opened fire on Alia.
The other officers were able to subdue Hall and take him into custody.
Hall has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The handgun that Hall used in the shooting “was reported stolen from Lexington County on or about September 2, 2015,” according to WISTV.
Alia was married and had a newborn son.
Officer Alia is the second law enforcement fatality from the State of South Carolina in 2015.
