An off-duty police officer accidentally shot himself on Saturday while on his way back from having dinner with his wife.
Cincinnati police said in a press release that Officer Darryl Jouett of the Erlanger (Kentucky) Police Department was inside an elevator when he reached to adjust the holster of his weapon, accidentally shooting himself in the stomach.
The bullet of the officer’s work-issued .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun bounced off the walls of the elevator.
The officer was transported to Univercy of Cincinnati Medical center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Jouett has been with the Erlanger Police Department for more than 25 years.
