Last week in southern Texas, a baby was saved from a scorching hot car when the family unintentionally left the keys inside the vehicle, police say.
A bystander captured the rescue on video in the parking lot of an HEB store located in Harlingen. A concerned crowd gathered around the car and collaborated to break the front windshield using various tools.
Although not caught on camera — a woman managed to climb through the shattered front windshield to reach the baby and safely hand the child out to safety.
The heat index that Wednesday soared above 100 degrees.
The exact duration that the child spent inside the vehicle before being rescued remains uncertain.
