Air Force Airman Shot Randomly Inside Wal-Mart Before Killing Himself

Two people were killed and one wounded in a shooting early on Tuesday at a Walmart store in Grand Forks, North Dakota, that involved a U.S. airman from the Grand Forks Air Force base, authorities said.

The gunman, Marcell Willis, 21, walked into the walked into the Wal-Mart early Tuesday and shot two employees with a handgun, killing one and injuring the other. Authorities say Willis tried to shoot another worker but missed, then killed himself.

Investigators believe the shooting was random and say Willis has no known connection to the Wal-Mart location or it’s employees.

The shooting happened at about 1:04 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found multiple victims inside the store. Several were taken to Altru Hospital immediately for injuries.

The airman was the gunman, police say… and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations was working with Grand Forks police, the Air Force said.

Altru Health System confirmed in a news release that the hospital did admit one person as a result of the shooting. That person was in “satisfactory condition,” according to the release which was issued at about 9:15 a.m.

Police are not releasing any names pending family notification.
