WATCH: Border Officer Shoots, Kills Attacker at Port of Entry

CALIFORNIA — A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer shot and killed a man crossing into the U.S. from Mexico Wednesday, officials said.

On Wednesday, Oct. 21, at about 12 a.m. local time, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer on duty at one of the vehicle primary lanes at the Calexico West Port of Entry in California was approached by an individual on a bike.

The individual got off the bike with a knife in his hand and came toward the officer.

The officer discharged his service issued weapon, striking the individual.

Officers immediately administered first aid until emergency medical services (EMS) arrived. EMS transported the individual to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The officer involved was not injured.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General, the Calexico Police Department and CBP are investigating the incident.
