This police overreaction comes courtesy of an officer in Philadelphia who was filmed threatening to “beat the shit” out of a teenager for making eye contact with him.
NBC Philadelphia reports that the footage, which first surfaced on Facebook on Oct. 17, shows an officer with the 19th District following a group of teens as they walk home. For unknown reasons, the unidentified officer singles out one of them and unleashes a string of threats:
Big man, do we have a problem? the officer asks. Because I notice that you keep trying to make eye contact with me. Is there a problem?
The teen replies to the officer though from the video it’s unclear what he says.
Okay, well keep f*****g walking, the officer replies. The next time you look me in my f*****g eye, I’m gonna beat the s**t out you!
Though police would not tell NBC Philadelphia when and where this was filmed, they mentioned that disciplinary action will be taken against the officer. A law enforcement official told the outlet that although they suspect the officer was provoked, officers must “maintain [their] professional demeanor” in matters like this.
