Shocking footage shows Beijing completely shrouded in smog in just 20 minutes.
The time lapse video taken on January 2 by Chas Pope, a resident in Beijing shows how in a short amount of time the city is left engulfed by the polluted air.
Pope said: ‘Beijing seems to be having a worse winter than normal for pollution – as usual, we get some crisp, clear days when the north wind blows but too many days are being spent under a suffocating haze.’
Beijing is currently under an orange alert for air quality.
Orange is the second highest alert in the country’s four tier system.
