Woman, 30, Found Dead of “Severe Laceration” on Streets of D.C.: Police

WASHINGTON — D.C. police are investigating after a woman was found dead on a sidewalk in southeast D.C. early Sunday morning.

The homicide that occurred on Sunday, January 31, 2021, in the 1100 block of Bellevue Street, Southeast.

Shortly after midnight, police were called to the scene following a report of a woman down on the sidewalk. When they arrived, they located the victim, suffering from a “severe laceration,” police said in a statement.

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs of life, the victim remained on the scene until being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The victim has been identified as 30 year-old Brenea Audrice Franklin, of Southeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099.
