LOS ANGELES — A jury has found a woman guilty of setting a man on fire last year.

Shalonda Christine Shaw, 34, a homeless person, was found guilty of one felony count of mayhem and the jury found true an allegation of personal use of a dangerous and deadly weapon, gasoline.

Shaw faces nine years in state prison.

On Sept. 5, 2019, Shaw poured gasoline from a container onto a 36-year-old man in the 1600 block of West Slauson Boulevard, a homeless encampment, according to evidence presented at the trial. Shaw lit the victim on fire and the victim suffered significant injuries–burns on 30% of his body, including his hands, feet and legs, authorities said after the attack. He was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition.

Officials did not reveal a motive behind the incident.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles City Fire Department.
