A girl from Texas has died two days after she jumped out of a bus onto a Houston interstate.
The 13-year-old got into an argument with another student and the bus driver separated the two, putting her in the back of the bus.
A short while later she hit the emergency exit button while the bus was travelling 55mph and humped out onto Interstate 45 near Bayou Vista, just outside Houston.
‘The back door of the bus opened, and then the alarm sounded, which made several of the kids focus their attention toward the back door,’ Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset told KHOU.
‘They witnessed this 13-year-old young lady jump onto the freeway.’
The girl had been listed in critical condition before passing away on Wednesday night.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Galveston Independent School District said in a statement Thursday; ‘We are extremely disheartened by the passing of one of our students, and we extend our thoughts and condolences to her family, friends, and teachers during this incredibly difficult period.’
Superintendent Larry Nichols later added; ‘It is my sincere hope that you will join me in keeping her family and all of our students in your thoughts and prayers during this heartbreaking time.
‘I urge students to reach out to one of our counselors deployed throughout the district to help with the grieving process.’
