2 Officers Shot At In Albuquerque – SWAT Situation

Two police officers were shot during the course of a traffic stop in southwest Albuquerque that has since escalated into a SWAT situation.

Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies were shot at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in southwest Albuquerque during an attempted traffic stop of a suspected stolen vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle fled and crashed near Del Rio and Rio Bravo. As the deputies pulled in behind the car, a male exited the car and shot at the officers.

No officers were injured during the exchange.

Deputies are now searching for the man in the immediate area, which was closed in both directions between Coors and Del Rio for several hours, but has since reopened.

The start time for Barcelona Elementary School was delayed until 10 a.m. and is now on shelter-in-place, KRQE reports.

There will be evening bus service to the school.

Other schools in the area were not impacted.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department is asking the public for help in identifying the subject.
