Shiite Houthi rebels have reportedly seized Yemen’s largest military base while there are conflicting reports on whether Yemen’s president is being held “captive.”

The rebels are believed to be holding President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi captive, while Yemen officials still say he remains head of the state.

The leader of the rebel group states that the group is complicit with Al Qaeda, although the rebels are not aware that the Yemeni government has agreed to U.S. drone strikes against Al Qaeda.

The U.N. Security has since voted to condemn the coup in Yemen.

In the event that the U.S. embassy is evacuated, two Navy warships are positioned in the Red Sea.

There has been no announcement of evacuation yet.
