Deputy Shot in St. Mary Parish, La.; Gunman Barricaded

FRANKLIN, Louisiana — Officials in Franklin were in a standoff and with a gunman who was actively shooting at Deputies Sunday afternoon. One Deputy was shot and airlifted to the hospital.

Statement from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office: “At 6:10 am this morning the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of a possible shooting at a residence on Dumesnil Road in Ashton. Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject with injuries. Deputies were successful in removing the subject from the scene.

The injured subject was transported to a local hospital. While continuing to secure the scene, deputies were fired upon and took cover. The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was activated.

Additional agencies responded to assist including Louisiana State Police, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Vermillion Parish Sheriff’s Office. While extracting deputies from the location, deputies were fired upon. One deputy was injured and has been transported to a local hospital. The shooter remains inside the residence. The situation is active. Highway 90 between 318 and 83 is closed at this time due to the residence’s proximity to the roadway.”
