Cops in Brooklyn saved a distraught man threatening to jump from the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge Thursday afternoon.

NEW YORK — Cops in Brooklyn saved a distraught man threatening to jump from the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge Thursday afternoon. Police Officers Matthew Simpson, Christopher Schlitt, Rohail Khalid and Kristo Cevi responded to a call of a dangerous condition on the bridge.

Upon their arrival, the officers were met by a passerby who directed their attention to a man who had scaled a support pillar on the bridge and was threatening to jump. The officers repeatedly attempted to engage the man to establish a dialogue. The 62-year-old man, who appeared despondent, did not respond to the officers, and instead, displayed a knife and attempted to cut his wrist.

At this time, The man began to empty his pockets and throw his property towards the water. After discarding items from his pocket, the distraught man suddenly jumped towards the water from the ledge. The officers immediately lunged towards the falling man and successfully pulled him onto the pedestrian walkway.

EMS responded and transported the man to Brookdale Hospital where he was met by his daughter and is being evaluated and treated for superficial wounds to his wrist. -NYPD
