San Marcos, Texas — San Marcos Police arrested two teen-aged girls and a 23-year-old woman they accuse of attacking and robbing a Texas State University student Monday evening.
On Jan. 11 at approximately 7:45 p.m., SMPD officers responded to 1015 SH 80 (Wal-Mart) for a reported aggravated robbery.
The victim, a 21-year-old Texas State University student, reported that she was attacked by two females who got out of a silver vehicle in the parking lot, approached her, and demanded her purse. When she refused to comply, one of the suspects struck her in the head, knocking her to the ground, and took her purse.
The victim suffered minor injuries during the assault but refused transport by EMS.
Surveillance video provided by Wal-Mart shows the vehicle cruising around the parking lot 15-20 minutes prior to the robbery. Investigator believe that the offenders were looking for a victim.
The offenders left the area after the attack, but the victim gave descriptions of the vehicle and the offenders to responding officers.
Five hours later, on Jan. 12 at 12:58 a.m., Officer Stephen Sarver observed a vehicle matching the description in the 2000 block of IH-35 at a convenience store. He made contact with the vehicle, and two subjects were subsequently arrested on unrelated charges:

Later in the morning, SMPD detectives followed up on this case. With the assistance of school resource officers and the juvenile detective, they located the two girls they believe were involved in the robbery. A 15-year-old girl was detained in the 100 block of Columbia Street, and a 16-year-old girl was detained at San Marcos High School. Both were taken to juvenile detention center where they, along with Kimberly Valdez, have been charged with Aggravated Robbery.
Police have no evidence that the attack was gang-related, but Saucedo and the three suspects in the attack are all acquaintances. Officers recovered the victim’s purse at one of the juvenile’s residence.
“This case is a wonderful example of why criminals should think twice about committing violent crimes like this within the city of San Marcos,” said Chief of Police Chase Stapp. “We are committed to keeping San Marcos safe, and the level of cooperation between our Patrol and Investigations personnel on this case is what led to the quick identification and apprehension of the suspects. I am very proud of the work they’ve done over the past 24 hours on this case.”
