Alex the Weimaraner was found wandering the streets of New Orleans on 9 October in an emaciated and terrified state.
X-rays discovered Alex had rocks and twigs in his stomach but nothing else, Fox 8 reported.
A few days later, the rescue centre said on its Facebook page that the dog’s stomach had flipped and that he was declining rapidly.
“Please keep him in your thoughts,” the centre said. “This poor boy has been to hell and back.”
Thankfully, the surgery was a success, and Alex is now slowly but surely returning to health.
