A woman was arrested on charges of assault after allegedly setting her boyfriend on fire because he threw away her meatballs and spaghetti, police in Florida said.
Clearwater Police said that they arrested 33-year-old Melissa Dawn Sellers, after being accused of burning 42-
year-old Carlos Ortiz Jr, early on Wednesday.
Sellers doused Ortiz with nail polish remover during a heated argument, which began after Ortiz threw away the spaghetti and meatballs.
Sellers set him on fire with a cigarette lighter. The two drank alcohol before the fire incident, police said. The man suffered burns to the face, chest and shoulders.
He was taken to the Tampa General Hospital, where he was in critical condition. Sellers left the scene before police arrived, and went to her stepfather’s house later that morning.
She was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, and charged with aggravated assault.
