Airport security at Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport carried out an extensive search on Friday of a Copa airline flight en route to Tampa, Florida, due to a suspected bomb threat. However, the investigation yielded an unexpected discovery—an adult diaper.

The aircraft had earlier returned to Panama City airport following reports of a potential bomb threat. The Boeing 737-800 landed at approximately 11 a.m. local time and was subsequently directed to an isolated section of the tarmac. There, 144 passengers disembarked, as reported by Panama’s Civil Aeronautics Authority on the social media platform X.

An anti-explosives team thoroughly examined the airplane, and the suspicious object found in one of the plane’s bathrooms was identified as an adult diaper, according to José Castro, the head of the airport’s security team.

“We had it on a secure runway where police special explosives canine units and special forces examined the object, and found it to be an adult diaper, ruling out any risk,” said Castro.
