F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes Near Phoenix

AKRON, Ohio - A plane crashed into an apartment building in Akron on Tuesday, police said.

ARIZONA — An F-16 Fighting Falcon jet crashed in Yavapai County on Thursday. The condition of the pilot was not immediately known.

The aircraft is from the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base, Fox News reported. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. local time.

The county sheriff sent a helicopter to the site in the city of Bagdad but has yet to find the wreckage.

The crash scene is about 85 miles northwest of the base located in suburban Glendale, the AP reported. No further details were available.

[Bagdad is a copper mining community and census-designated place in Yavapai County, Arizona, United States, in the western part of the state. It is one of only two remaining company towns in Arizona. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. ]
