ARIZONA — (CAUTION: Story may be disturbing to some readers) — Police in Mesa have arrested two people for the alleged horrific treatment of a 3-year-old girl. Police say the child was found in a closet, inside a trash bag. Her hands and feet were duct taped and her mouth was also taped shut.
The girl was covered in feces, bruised, her genitalia blistered, was suffering from a rash, and only wearing a diaper and shirt. She was rushed to the hospital and was “not doing well.” Police said the girl could not stand on her own and was not speaking to investigators. However, she is expected to survive.
AZ Central Reported: “Meza said police received a tip from a man who had been at the apartment, in the 600 block of South Mesa Drive, after the man connected with the male suspect, Francisco Javier Rios-Covarrubias, over the Internet about having sex.
When the man arrived, Rios-Covarrubias asked if he wanted to have sex with the child; the man declined and left the apartment, upset about the suggestion, police said.
Police said the man later returned to have consensual sex with the suspect, who told him the little girl no longer was at the apartment.”
21-year-old Mayra Solis, the child’s mother, told police the toddler was at the mans home for days at a time while she worked. She says that sometimes she would only see her daughter one day out of the week. Police say the mother would shave the childs head and claim she had cancer to scam people out of money. She if facing child abuse charges.
Rios-Coverrubias was booked on charges of sex trafficking, kidnapping, sexual conduct with a minor and felony child abuse.
