MISSION, Texas – On Sunday, U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector rescued two migrants who were having trouble crossing a canal after they illegally entered the United States.

Agents assigned to the McAllen Station were patrolling near Mission, Texas, when they encountered three subjects in the Mission Canal who had been left behind by their smuggler. One subject was able to make it out of the water while the other two were struggling to stay afloat.

An agent entered the water with a Res-Q-Disc and assisted the two subjects out of the canal. McAllen Station EMTs responded to the scene to evaluate the subjects. All three were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. Once medically cleared, they will be processed accordingly.

The temperature last night reached a low of 53 degrees with gusty winds and rain in the area.
