One student has been killed as a result of an avalanche in the French Alps, leaving at least five missing.
The avalanche hit a group of ten students and the person leading them, killing one child.
Five students were found by a police rescue patrol, while the search is active for five students who are currently missing.
One of those found had suffered a heart attack, and there are ‘other very serious injuries,’ said a high mountain police officer.
He added: ‘Victims have been evacuated to hospitalin Grenoble. Two helicopters have been scrambled.
‘A teacher was found on the surface of the avalanche with multiple injuries. Five people are unaccounted for.’
‘The current avalanche risk is four, on a scale of five. Our recommendation is not to go off piste until the risk level has dropped.
