WATCH: (Scroll Down For Video) A police officer fro Minnesota has pleaded guilty to a charge of animal cruelty after he was caught beating up his K-9.

Bretty Berry, aged 48, a Ramsey Country Sheriff’s Deputy has been placed on administrative leave since June 15th.

His dog Boone suffered no injuries during the attack and has recently been assigned a new partner.

On Tuesday, Berry said that he was drunk when the incident happened.

Initially, Berry was charged with animal cruelty and assaulting a public safety dog.

Due to his guilty plea, the prosecutes dropped the second charge of assault.

He now faces the possibility of 90 days in jail and a fee of up to $1,000.

‘If striking a dog while you are drunk, which is not OK, is the worst thing that any human being does in their lifetime, then you’ve led a pretty good life,’ Berry’s Defense Attorney Kevin Short said outside of court on Tuesday.

He will still remain on the Ramsey County Sheriff’s force, but will undertake a new lower paying role, it was announced.
