BREAKING: 3 Alarm Fire At NYU Hospital In Manhattan

A major fire broke out at NYU Langone Medical Center early Wednesday afternoon.

FDNY has placed the fire under control. Crews are in the process of inspecting the impacted building.

FDNY Fire Marshals are now also responding.

The total patient count is one with minor injuries that was treated on scene.

NYU has given an all clear and will relocated patients back to their original locations.

NYUs emergency room still remains on total diversion.

East 34th Street between 1st Avenue and FDR Drive is closed to vehicle traffic.

There is one lane of traffic on 1st Avenue from East 32nd to East 34th Street.

The city’s office of emergency management is urging people to avoid the area as crews battle the blaze at New York University Hospital Center – 560 1st Avenue near East 34th Street.

Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen wafting up from the hospital and could be seen as far away as Fifth Avenue.

Sources said the fire began on a sub-roof located on the fifth floor of the new building. The building is next to the main hospital building and is under construction. Roofing materials appear to have caught fire.

Heavy FDNY operations continue at the scene.

NYU is currently relocating patients from affected areas impacted by smoke to other areas within the hospital.

There remains no reported patients.
