NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at 3 p.m. today due to anticipated strong storms and tornado threat. The activation is a rare occurrence.
The National Weather Service is predicting a strong line of storms entering the Nashville area as early as 4 p.m. and as late as 10 p.m. While the exact timing and strength of these storms is unclear, they pose the threat of strong straight-line winds, large damaging hail, flash flooding and even tornadoes.
Residents should take this timeline into account when planning out their afternoon/evening commutes, officials said.
Today’s activation will pull together key assets from multiple departments, including the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Metro Fire Department, Metro Police Department, Metro Public Works, Metro Emergency Communications Center, and Nashville Electric Service.
