DEL RIO, Texas – On Aug. 13, U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Abilene Station arrested a convicted sex offender who was previously deported.
On May 16, 2014, the Palo Pinto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Noe Cervantes-Rodriguez, 34, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, on a warrant for indecency with a child, sexual conduct, in Mineral Wells. On Aug. 5, Cervantes-Rodriguez was convicted of that charge and was subsequently given a five-year suspended sentence. On Aug. 13, the Sheriff’s Office turned over Cervantes-Rodriguez to Abilene Border Patrol agents. Records also showed that Cervantes-Rodriguez had been previously deported from the United States.
“This is a reflection of how federal, state and local law enforcement agencies can work together to apprehend dangerous criminals to keep our communities safe,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karisch.
Cervantes-Rodriguez faces a charge of illegal re-entry after deportation – 8 USC § 1326.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the Joint Task Force-West South Texas Corridor, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. During FY 2015, which started Oct. 1, 2014, Del Rio Sector agents have apprehended ten previously deported sex offenders.
