NASHVILLE, TENN. — This is something that should never happen, much less to a female senior citizen leaving a church bible study.

A 70-year-old victim walking to her car midday Tuesday in the parking lot of Lebanon Church of Christ, 2307 Lebanon Pike, suffered broken bones in her right hand and facial injuries after a man in a pickup truck robbed her of her purse and caused her to fall to the pavement.

The robber, identified by Hermitage Precinct detectives from surveillance video as Gilbert D. Ostring, Jr., 48, drove up to the victim in his silver Dodge 1500 pickup truck under the guise of asking her the location of any nearby shelters. He then reached out of his window, grabbed the victim’s purse and forcibly yanked it away, causing the 70-year-old to hit the asphalt hard.

An arrest warrant charging Ostring, an ex-con, with robbery has been issued.

Officers are now trying to locate him. Ostring is still believed to be driving the Dodge truck, which bears Tennessee license number 8K76T3. Anyone seeing Ostring or knowing his whereabouts is urged to immediately contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.

Ostring has multiple prior convictions out of Davidson, Williamson and Knox Counties for offenses including theft, forgery, identity theft, fraudulent use of credit cards, and reckless aggravated assault. He got out of state prison in June 2017.
