Former Corrections Officer Found Murdered In Driveway

OCALA, FLORIDA — At 9:49 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6th, former Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Corrections Officer Ronnie Charles Damon, 29, was found deceased at his home located at 301 Larch Road in Ocala. Damon was found in his driveway and it was determined that he suffered a single gunshot wound. It appeared that Damon was working on his vehicle at the time that he was shot and killed. This investigation is now being upgraded from a suspicious death to a homicide.

MCSO Major Crimes detectives have conducted numerous interviews of Mr. Damon’s family, friends and neighbors. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Crime Laboratory is assisting with the investigation and is currently processing several pieces of evidence for this case. Major Crimes detectives are asking for the community’s help in solving this case. Up to $5,000 from MCSO and $1,000 from the Marion County Crime Stoppers is being offered for any information that leads to the identity and/or arrest of the individual(s) responsible.

Ronnie was a former Corrections Officer with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He reached the rank of Corporal and served Marion County as a dedicated employee from December 2007 to October 2014. He resigned from his position to pursue other career ambitions.
