Eight sperm whales have been found dead on a single beach in Germany.
The huge whales were washed up in Schleswig-Holstein only weeks after 12 other whales were found in multiple locations across the North Sea.
Images quickly emerged on social media, which showed them lying next to each other, resembled the pictures taken of two other whales in England just over a week ago.
The pair of sperm whales at Skegness were believed to be part of the same pod as others found in Hunstanton, Norfolk, and Wainfleet in Lincolnshire.
Workers spent last Tuesday moving the creatures and covering them with sand ahead of their removal on Wednesday.
A regional environmental authority spokesperson said: ‘During their migrations, individual animals mistakenly wind up in the shallow and nutrient-poor North Sea,’
The large creatures sometimes wash up accidentally after becoming disorientated due to the shallow water.
Wildlife protection groups blame the underwater noise from sea traffic and oil platforms for interfering with acoustic signals.
