French police have demolished a DIY mosque and church at the Calais migrant camp.
The ‘pastor’ of the church clashed with police as demolition machines moved in, leaving an empty field behind.
There were no injuries during the demolition.
The demolition took over two weeks for a large segment of the migrant camp, clearing a 100-meter security zone.
Rev. Teferi Shuremo said authorities had told him the church was ‘safe’ from demolition. ‘They are trying to destroy peace,’ he said, clinging to a huge wooden cross and pledging to build another church.
The migrants were informed with two weeks notice to vacate.
A regional official said the mosque had already been vacated and no one protested about it being demolished.
Around 4,000 migrants from Syria and other neighboring countries are estimated to live at the camp as they attempt to reach Britain.
This comes as a chief judge of immigration has ruled that most of the people in the camp are not refugees.
