Georgia has now set the date to execute its oldest death row inmate, setting the date to February 2nd.

Brandon Jones, aged 72, is now scheduled to be put to death on February 2nd 2016 at the state prison in Jackson.

Brandon Jones was convicted of killing a 30-year-old convenience store worker during a robbery.

A federal judge ordered a new sentencing hearing for Jones as jurors had improperly brought a Bible into the deliberation room.

The US Supreme Court rejected an appeal from Jones in October.

According to a death warrant signed for Jones Wednesday, the septuagenarian is to be put to death at 7pm on February 2, reported Atlanta Journal Constitution.

During 2015, Georgia executed five death row inmates.

If Jones is not executed on the scheduled date, they have until noon to carry out the death sentence.
