NEW ORLEANS — (Scroll down for video) — A manhunt is on for Euric Cain, 21, who is wanted after shooting Tulane University resident Peter Gold, 25, early Friday morning when the student stopped to help a woman who Cain appeared to be dragging down the street.

Gold was shot in the stomach in the 1000 block of Saint Mary Street.

Around 4:00 a.m., video surveillance captured the suspect dragging a woman to his nearby parked SUV.

Seconds later, the victim drove up and attempted to assist the woman at which point the suspect pointed a gun at him and demanded money. The victim explained to the suspect repeatedly, that he did not have any cash.

The suspect became enraged and shot the victim once in the stomach and attempted to shoot him a second time in the head, but the gun jammed.

Afterwards, the suspect took the woman’s purse and fled the area in a grey or sliver SUV. The unknown woman was not injured during the incident.

The victim was later transported to the hospital where he is currently listed in guarded condition.

Early this morning, detectives recovered the SUV in the 2200 block of John Raphael Place. Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified Euric Cain as the suspect and have obtained arrest warrants for Attempted First Degree Murder, Second Degree Kidnapping and Armed Robbery.
