Two soldiers with the Bosnian Army were shot and killed near the army barracks in Sarajevo Wednesday.
According to witnesses, the gunman was yelling “Allahu Akbar” when he opened fire with an automatic weapon at the betting shop.
Three others were injured as the gunman fired upon a passing bus.
The police began searching for the killer. The suspect fled to his nearby home and an explosion was heard before police entered the house. He was found dead inside.
Regional police directorate chief Dragan Lukac told Reuters it was too early to say whether the attack was an act of terrorism or simply murder. “We should wait for the investigation to complete,” he said.
From the AP: “Bosnian Muslims traditionally practice a moderate form of Islam, preached by the country’s official Islamic Community but some have embraced radical teachings from foreign fighters who came to help Muslims during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.
Authorities said that 94 Bosnians have gone to fight in Syria. Their records show that 56 of them have returned, while 26 died there.”
