(Scroll Down For Video) — CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield made a shocking statement Saturday when she described an attack on the Dallas Police Department as “very courageous and brave, if not crazy as well.”

People were outraged.

In addition, Breaking911 reported Saturday afternoon that the Fort Worth Police Association was calling for Whitfield to apologize… and quick.

On Sunday afternoon, Whitfield very briefly addressed the incident but did not apologize to those she offended. “I misspoke, and in no way believe the gunman was courageous, nor brave,” she said.

DALLAS — The suspect in an attack on Dallas police headquarters is believed to be dead after a police sniper shot inside of his van with a .50 caliber round.

The shooting began just after midnight when a van, described by witnesses as an armored vehicle, rammed into police squad cars at the headquarters and someone inside opened fire.

Police had earlier suggested there may have been up to four suspects, but police now believe that only one suspect shot from different angles and positions.

Officers, staffers and perhaps others narrowly avoided being shot. The chief said rounds hit not only an occupied squad car but also the police headquarters’ front lobby, its information desk and the building’s second floor.

Police had spent hours trying to negotiate with the man in the armored vehicle he used during his assault on the headquarter before he led dozens of squad cars on a chase that ended along Interstate 45 in Hutchins.

The suspect identified himself as James Boulware, a 35-year-old with a history of family violence.

Before he was shot, the suspect ranted to police by phone, giving his name and alleging police were responsible for his child having been taken from him, but investigators haven’t confirmed his identity, police said.
