WINCHESTER, Indiana – The Winchester Police Department said on its Facebook page that it had received a report of a razor blade found in a candy bar after Halloween trick-or-treating.

“There have been reports of tampering with candy and placing razor blades in candy bars,” the statement said.

“Parents, please examine your child’s candy carefully. Report any tampering to you local authorities. Thank you.”

Officials in Philadelphia also reported the discovery of harmful objects in candy collected last night.

The Indy Star reported: “A few other communities around the country reported similar incidents this Halloween, including a razor blade found in a Snicker’s bar during trick-or-treating in Ohio, according to a USA Today Network article, and another reported from West Virginia. News accounts in both those cases, however, quoted police in those communities stating such reports were rare and these were believed to be isolated incidents.”

Police urge all parents to check Halloween candy before children get their hands on the treats.
