CALIFORNIA — A 32-year-old man pleaded no contest Wednesday to assaulting a man at a bar restroom last Labor Day.

David Delgado of Winnetka entered the plea to one felony count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury. A no contest plea is not a guilty plea, but it results in a conviction.

Sentencing for Delgado is scheduled on May 28. He faces four years in prison.

On Sept. 2, 2019, Delgado allegedly approached a man in a restroom at a Hermosa Beach bar and asked him what was written on the hat he was wearing. The victim was wearing a red hat that read: “Make America Great Again,” with Russian lettering, the prosecutor said.

When the victim responded, Delgado became angry and assaulted the man resulting in serious injuries, the prosecutor added.

The case was investigated by the Hermosa Beach Police Department.
