WILSON, N.C. -(AP)- UPDATE: Sheriff: Gold heist from armored truck suspicious; guards not currently considered suspects.

EARLIER REPORT:  The truck, operated by Transvalue Inc. of Miami, was traveling on I-95 from Florida to Massachusetts Monday when the guards pulled to the side of the road after mechanical problems with the truck.

Three armed men in a white van, stopped and ambushed the guards. The suspects tied the guards arms and legs and forced them to lay down in the woods.

The thieves made off with multiple barrels of gold bars worth almost 5 Million Dollars.

The FBI has joined the Wilson County Sheriff’s Department in the search for the robbers.  No detailed description of the suspects or their vehicle was released.

The gold bars were headed to Attleboro, Massachusetts, a town south of Boston nicknamed “Jewelry City” for the large number of manufacturers based there.

The truck carrying the loot had left Miami about 4 a.m. Sunday, Transvalue chief executive officer Jay Rodriguez said in a statement.
