MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE — One suspect is dead and another is on the run following an Officer-involved shooting in South Memphis on Wednesday. The shots rang out in front of the Saint Andrews AME Church on South Parkway. A large crime scene was taped off in the area.

The two gunmen reportedly jumped out of a car and opened fire on Memphis Police officers. The officers returned fire, killing one shooter. The second suspect took off running, WMC reported. A large manhunt is underway.

The TBI was headed to the scene.

City Mayor Jim Strickland released the following statement: “I have been made aware of an officer-involved shooting today. However, TBI is the lead agency investigating. I am not at liberty to discuss the details of this case. This is a reminder of the dangers our officers face on a daily basis, even on something as routine as a traffic stop.”
