Shelton, WA — Mason County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) detectives are currently serving a search warrant at 21 W. Hulbert Rd. investigating a report that a fetus may be buried on the property.

Late last night a St. Peter’s Hospital emergency room doctor contacted law enforcement to report a 17 year-old female being examined for an unknown medical issue.

The hospital reported to Olympia Police Department detectives that it appeared the female had given birth within the previous 24 hours. Initially the female denied being pregnant, but a check of hospital records showed that the female had been at St. Peter’s Hospital on November 4th and that she was pregnant at the time.

Olympia PD detectives interviewed both the female and her father.

The female’s father told detectives that his daughter had given birth to a stillborn fetus on November 9th and that he had buried the child in the back yard.

MCSO detectives escorted the female’s father to the residence and he led them to what appeared to be a freshly dug and refilled hole in the back yard.

Washington State Patrol crime scene investigators are assisting the MCSO with the investigation at the scene. If a body is located, an autopsy will be scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Anyone with knowledge about this incident is encouraged to contact the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and speak with Det. Jeff Rhoades. –MCSO
