A Kentucky man who decided to take a nap inside his running pickup truck in the parking lot of the Trinity Lane Waffle House Sunday morning awoke to two Metro police officers wanting to ask him about the shotgun and 3 pounds of marijuana they found in plain view inside the vehicle.

A citizen called police at 5:25 a.m. Sunday after seeing Ralph Cole, 27, of Hopkinsville, sitting in the pickup truck possibly passed out. The citizen saw a shotgun under the man’s legs. When North Precinct Officers Joseph Gawlowski and Abigail Malone arrived, they saw several bags of marijuana on the passenger seat. They opened the passenger door and removed the shotgun, marijuana, a pistol hidden under the marijuana, and a backpack before awakening Cole. Also found in the truck and on Cole’s person were 55 grams of meth, 4.5 grams of Ecstasy, 29 assorted pills, ¾ pound of apparent psilocybin mushrooms, and $1,858 cash.

His pickup truck was impounded.

Cole told the officers that he was on his way back from a “hippie concert” and denied having any knowledge of drugs. He remains in jail in lieu of $128,000 bond on multiple drug and gun charges.
